New to Admin. My Kanban Board issues create new to Backlog. I don't want that. How can I change this

I have created a Kanban board to use with my small team. No matter who creates a ticket it automatically assigns to Backlog. We don't want that. I want Create to go to the workflow Selected for Development. How can I force this workflow status change?

Hi Heather - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You need to change the workflow so that the first transition (the create transition) goes to a different status as the first status.

How exactly do I make that change. I've been pouring over the knowledge articles but I can't find one that matches my exact needs. This seems like such an easy thing but I can't get it.
