Need to know if an individual can import a template into a custom Jira field

Need to know if an individual can import a template into a custom Jira field. Here are some details:

Using an existing field as an example, the Root Cause field would be blank upon initial opening of a defect.  This would allow each product to determine what information is necessary to be included in the field without having separate fields for each section.

A template would be imported to ensure that all of the information needed was provided.  In the case of the new field we are looking at (Impact Assessment), it would be used as part of the Sprint planning reviews.

If this is not something that is easily supported, another option would be to build a sub-task issue type that is specific to HITS.  This sub-task would need to be attached for each defect when it is assessed.

What I am trying to avoid is having too many fields in the defects that are only relevant to HITS, but also provide structure so that information critical to sprint planning would be available.

Hi @Nguyen Duc Hoang

Just to confirm - you're looking to...

  • Create a custom field or fields which are a multi-text field (or similar) that...
  • Would be blank at creation but required prior to an action being taken (eg. added to a sprint, moved to a specific status, etc)...
  • And users would populate it with data from a template - not sure what you mean by import here

^ Could you clarify if this is your need - or modify it to match?

There might be a few options here depending on your specific scenario :)
