Need help managing Kanban Backlog and Kanban Board views

Rick Dorgan March 19, 2025

Here's what I would like to do:

  1. Kanban Backlog: Display In Progress tickets under In Progress bucket, To Do/Blocked under Backlog bucket.
  2. Kanban Board: To Do tickets under To Do column, In Progress tickets under In Progress column, Blocked tickets under Blocked column, Done tickets under Done column.

It seems if I want To Do/Blocked to show up in the backlog view, I can't have them also show up in the Kanban board view. Is this they case?

Hi @Rick Dorgan

Right, if you enable the backlog view in the Kanban board, they are no longer displayed in the Kanban view. The goal is to declutter the Kanban view when you have a lot of issues in your backlog, and focus only on the work that need to be done.

That makes sense. Thanks for the quick response.

Hi @Rick Dorgan ,

If it’s not too late, I’d like to share an alternative approach that we’ve implemented in our Advanced Agile and Kanban Boards app. We’ve added the ability to convert any column on the Kanban board into a backlog-style view, enabling an intermediate planning session at any stage of your workflow.

This is especially useful when the board represents an end-to-end flow—from idea to production—where multiple planning points may exist. For example, selecting the best ideas for requirements preparation, or choosing which prepared requirements are ready for implementation.

Please see the illustration below.
