My workflow goes straight from create to done and I am unable to add transition steps

I have somehow gotten the workflow for my project in a muddle. The Create task goes directly to my done status (which is currently listed as recorded, but I can change the label if needed).  I have tried many things to get this resolved, including:

clicking the create transition and trying to choose new to do status from drop down ( doesn't allow)

dragging the transition from create to to do ("Right now, you can't edit this transition" message)

deleting the done status (won't allow)

Because you will need to add an outgoing transition from To Do you will need to make a copy of your workflow. Then in the copy you can click on the Create transition and move the arrow that is currently pointing to Recorded to To Do. Then rearrange your other transitions the same way. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to get the endpoints to move.

And any time you delete a status you first have to create a copy of the workflow and make the change in the copy.
