My Saved Search Filters save but do not appear in Managed Filters UI

I attempted this on a Mac using Chrome, Safari, and Firefox with no plug-ins enabled and a cleared browser cache. I have the latest iOS and browser versions.

Simple search query: project = "<project name here>" AND reporter = <reporter ID here"

There are two methods I am using to save a search filter when I am viewing my Backlog.

  1. Perform a simple search, and try to save it using the inline "Save as" button on the top of the page.
  2. Perform a simple search, and using the "Save as" located under the "Filters" button dropdown to the right of the blue Search button.

When I use both 'save as' search methods, the saved search appears in the Filter button dropdown but it does not appear under Issues > Manage Filters > My Filters list. The saved search filters are also not accessible under Dashboards within any Gadget.

Why cannot view my saved search filters under Issues > Manage Filters > My Filters list or in a Dashboard Gadget?

Thank you. I am pretty new at JIRA. I figured out the problem.

I always lived in the Backlog Saved Search and I wanted to experiment with Dashboards so I thought I could reuse my saved searches. This why I was having issues now. All my saved searches are for Backlog. I get it now but as a UI/UX designer the UX could be better – LOL.

So "Backlog Saved Search" and "Issue Saved Search" are not exactly the same, although they serve related purposes. Here's a breakdown of what I understand for anyone having the same misunderstanding:

Backlog Saved Search:

  • Purpose: Specifically tailored to help you manage and view issues in the backlog of a Scrum or Kanban board.
  • Context: It’s used within the board's backlog view to filter and sort issues that are yet to be worked on. This view is primarily used by teams to prioritize and organize tasks that are not yet in progress.
  • Characteristics: The saved search might include filters for issue status, priority, or other criteria relevant to backlog management.

Issue Saved Search:

  • Purpose: A more general feature that allows you to create and save search queries for issues across the entire JIRA system.
  • Context: It’s used for a wide range of purposes, including tracking, reporting, and managing issues outside the context of a specific board's backlog. This could include searches for issues by project, issue type, status, assignee, etc.
  • Characteristics: The saved search can be used in various parts of JIRA, like dashboards, issue navigator, or reports. It provides a versatile way to filter and view issues based on the criteria you define.

"Backlog Saved Search" is more specialized for managing the backlog within a board, while an "Issue Saved Search" is a broader tool for managing and viewing issues across JIRA.
