Hello,

I'm researching the best way to import projects from one Jira instance (A) to Jira instance B. There are existing projects within Jira instance B that I don't want to disrupt.

I've created a test project in Jira instance B with same schemas, work flows, etc. Users are not all there (from Jira instance A).

I've heard of trouble when importing the project into another instance, that it can disrupt other projects on the Jira B instance. Is there a seamless way I can import all of project X to Jira instance B without disrupting other projects in Jira B? Also, do all users needed to be added before importing?

Thanks,

Tracy

Atlassian has this documented. It's not a trivial process currently.  There is work being done on the Cloud Migration Assistant, but it may not be able to deal with your project configurations currently.

A brief summary of the process, assuming the Cloud Migration Assistant won't work for you:

  1. Download a copy of instance A and import the data in to a Server instance.
  2. Download a copy of instance B and import the data in to a Server instance.
  3. Perform normalization steps to rename users, normalize global field values, normalize field names, status names, etc.
  4. Export from A and import in to B
    1. Use Project Import to import the desired Projects. or...
    2. Use Configuration Manager to migrate the Projects (not free)
  5. Push the combined mess back up in to B
  6. Delete what was migrated from A (in the Cloud.)

Good luck!
