Based on assumptions here, it seems you might have BACKLOG status mapped to DONE column of the board, you may need to check the board config here to know 'which-status-mapped-to-what-columns'.
If you've right column with correct status, then check for below:
1. Try to change the status of issue from issue-view to required status - if that's getting transitioned to, then something with board might be an issue.
If that's not moving, or having some conditions etc' while moving, then that would be condition causing the board not to drag-drop to required status.
2. With #1, check what are conditions here? Even check for the workflow post function for DONE status if having all the required actions, ex. re-index, status update, event fire, etc.
For your query as: Automatically move to right column, if asking about automation, then you can refer http://atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/automation/overview#what-is-automation for actions; which involves your trigger condition to action the automatic status transition; if you move the ticket to DONE manually, the board should have the updates in no-time.
If still an issue: Share the board column config and workflow snapshot.

Thanks for the screenshot. Based on screenshot, no issues observed, but a correct as 'set as resolution' would be for the Done column, not for the selected for development.
Can you check again moving ETT-11 to backlog and moving done again and check in the board, if you issue is still in backlog, there could be data issue in the application.
I the ETT-11 view, you can see the drop-down for the status selected on right column top.
