When migrating from JIRA Cloud to on premise Jira Server, how do you do a smooth migration of data without losing the latest changes?

I only see the option of importing data in the setup wizard of the new server! (as in step 4 of the migration guide https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver075/migrating-from-jira-cloud-to-server-applications-935390961.html?_ga=2.171073056.1833009225.1533642384-1481598288.1503927452#MigratingfromJIRACloudtoServerapplications-4.ImportyourdatafromJIRACloudintoJIRAServer )

Ideally I would like to smoke test the migration for a while and then just migrate the delta of data that was changed since the last export/import.

Hi Thor,

This is not possible. A full migration is needed in order to migrate from Cloud to Server.

One option you could do is export the issues via XML from Cloud, and import those into server, but be aware you will lose any project-specific settings.

Could you clarify exactly what you plan to do post-migration?

I'm assuming here that you intend on only working on 1 or 2 projects on Server post-migration in order to test it. The steps would then be as follows:

  1. Export full backup from Cloud
  2. Import full backup from Cloud into an empty Server instance.
  3. Delete the projects from Server that you don't intend on testing.
  4. On the Cloud instance, disable the projects that you will be testing on the Server instance. This will prevent any updates.
  5. When you're ready to move, export the project you were working on from the Server instance.
  6. Do the full migration again, Cloud to Server.
  7. Individually import the exported projects onto Server.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Regards,

Shannon
