Migrate/Merge Jira Cloud

daniel_schablowski October 30, 2025

Hello Community,

I have got 2 Jira Clouds which needs to be merged/migrated. Is the "Import Jira cloud" function the right way here? I found a way to migrate single spaces but this manual thing takes way too long. We also have product discovery spaces that needs to be migrated.

I really dont know where to start here :(

Thanks for any help

Hi @daniel_schablowski

Atlassian advises to contact a solution partner to help you in migrating instances, but if your instances are not big, I suppose you could do it yourself. The guide here https://www.atlassian.com/migration/plan/cloud-guide#migration-tools might help you understand a few things about migration and the ways you can make this happen.

You have to understand which entities can be migrated and which not. What you should be careful when migrating and to handle things after the migration. Special care you need for your 3rd party apps, if you have any, since some of them do not have an automated path.

My cup of tea would be using the JCMA, or in cloud "Data Transfer":

More info here: https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/copy-product-data/

Let me know if that helped.

Hello @daniel_schablowski

You are on the right track, you just need to follow the steps that Atlassian recomnebds:

  • We recommend splitting your cloud backup file into two separate files: a data file containing your activeobjects.xml and entities.xml, and a separate one for your attachments and other media. Learn more
  • The total size of the .xml files should be less than or equal to 20 GB before zipping and importing the file. To import larger files, contact support.
  • Import your data first. Importing your data file will overwrite all data (except for users and groups) in your Jira Cloud site.
  • Then, import your media file(s). If your media file is greater than 10 GB, split it into smaller (2 - 5 GB) files and import each separately. Learn more
  • Import will merge users with existing cloud users. This may result in users gaining additional product access or permissions. You need to check what groups users will be merged into on the cloud site.
  • Import will retain existing customer organizations and memberships on this Cloud site, and add any new ones from your file. This may impact customer permissions. Read more about customer organizations
