Migrate Jira imbedded database to MySQL

I am trying to migrate my database to MySQL. I have installed MySQL version 5.1. I am able to start MySQL but when I run the config.sh script I get the following error:

Could not connect to the DB; Unknown table engine ‘InnoDB’.

I added

innobd_checksums=on to /etc/my.cnf and restarted MySQL however I am still getting this error.
