Make Start Date and End Date Read Only

Abhilash Tumbagonahalli Sriranga September 17, 2025

We have automated population of Actual Start Date and Actual End Date on Jira Software based on the status transition, is there a way we can make it read only so users are not able to change these dates or if we can maintain these as backend field without showing on the Jira issue screen

Hi, @Abhilash Tumbagonahalli Sriranga

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Basic version, how you can limit field edition, was described by @Matteo Vecchiato .
But also you can use additional 3rd party software, which can modify field behaviour.
For example, you can use such application, which is free of charge:

Hi @Abhilash Tumbagonahalli Sriranga

Welcome to Atlassian community.

You could:

  • Create an Auto-transition that could be called only by automation (setting a condition in hat must be hidden for users)
  • Edit the fields only in that transition, setting a screen with those fields in the transition
  • Leaving those field only in View screen ( a part of above transition screen)
  • The automation should execute the Auto-transition specifying the dates value.

I hope it helps
