MCP server unable to fetch list of child items

pranoti_redij December 2, 2025

HI,

I am trying to fetch all the child items for a specific epic by using a prompt with JQL query.  For Example - using Atlassian MCP server, fetch the results for JQL uery :  parent = BRC-26128. Every time it is returning "no issues found" The same query works fine in the JIRA search. Is this a bug or limitation with JIRA MCP Server?

Tools used - VSCode, Github Copilot, JIRA MCP

Hi @pranoti_redij

Might be a limitation with the MCP.

I suggest you raise an issue with Atlassian Support

Hi @pranoti_redij

What user is running JQL using Atlassian MCP? Looks like permission issue.

Regards,
Seba

i have connected Atlassian MCP with my user credentials. Doesn't look permission issue, because when i try to fetch say description of a story or task, it works fine, when i query to fetch child items, it doesn't return anything
