Love the unique regex custom field JIRA plugin but deleting a field that uses it fails... is there a trick to it?

Love the unique regex custom field JIRA plugin but deleting a field that uses it fails for me.

java.lang.NullPointerException
	at com.atlassian.jira.issue.customfields.persistence.OfBizCustomFieldValuePersister.removeAllValues(OfBizCustomFieldValuePersister.java:190)
	at com.atlassian.jira.issue.customfields.persistence.EagerLoadingOfBizCustomFieldPersister.removeAllValues(EagerLoadingOfBizCustomFieldPersister.java:71)
	at sun.reflect.GeneratedMethodAccessor3633.invoke(Unknown Source)....

 I tried disassociating the field from all screens but still cannot delete it.  Any suggestions? :-)
