Lost data when moving issue to another project

Is there a place where I can retrieve data that was not transferred over when an issue was moved from one project to another? The first project was using a custom field that was not included on the target project.

I'm afraid the answer is "your backups". I seem to remember it drops the lot. Have you tried extending the custom field context to cover the target project? If that doesn't start displaying the old data, then my memory is working and you've lost it.
