Looking information on default planning workflows (Epic, Story, Task, etc)

James Giacobbi May 9, 2019

Our team currently uses JIRA for defect/problem tracking.  We would like to pilot using JIRA for our planning as well.

Is there a minimalist/default/canned set of workflows for Stories, Epics, Tasks, etc. that can be turned on for us to pilot?

Any resources/examples of JIRA being used with Hardware teams would be appreciated as well.

Thanks,

Jay

Hi James

welcome to the community.

Generally speaking i would suggest to start with an quite easy workflow

There are some pretty good articles on

https://www.atlassian.com/agile/project-management/workflow

and

https://www.atlassian.com/agile/project-management

related to that topic that might be worth a look.

Cheers

Kurt,  Thanks, these are helpful for improving my understanding of the workflow/process.  Do you know if there is a default set of workflows for Stories, Epics, Tasks, that can be enabled in my instance of JIRA so we can pilot our planning activities in JIRA?  I want have our JIRA IT team enable this

Thanks,

Jay

Hi James

depending on the type of project you create there is already a default workflow in place

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/jira-applications-and-project-types-overview-938846805.html

As you refer to E Epics and Stories i assume you will follow the agile approach and should pick a software project (assuming that you are using Jira Software)

If that is the case than you typically will have a backlog containing all your stories (that belong to Epics) and that you will plan into sprints. Once a sprint get started, these stories will move through the different workflow statuses like Open -> In Progress -> Done
