Hi All,

I have 2 projects in JIRA 'A' and 'B', I have an Epic in Project A and an issue in Project B, now in order to change status of my issue in project B, I need to enter the Parent i.e, Epic from Project as shown in the below image. I was in both the projects and also has admin access. I couldnt figure out how to exactly do this. Please let me know.

Hi @EvanLewis

Can I confirm the need here...

  • Project A has an Epic
  • Project B has another issue within it
  • You need to link the issue in B as a child of the Epic in A

...is this correct?

---

It looks like you're utilising the right field, and it's during issue creation.

Is no Epic appearing? If yes, can you clarify...

  • Is the Issue Key correct?
  • What happens when you type in the Key - does a search box appear showing results? This should appear when entering a parent
  • Is the "issue" in Project A an issue type which is a direct child of an Epic (often types like Story, Task, Bug, etc)?
  • Do you have sufficient permissions in Project A to link an issue to the Epic? You need at least Browse Projects and Edit Issues permissions

You can also do a few simple checks, to see if it's a browser issue, try...

  • Different browser(s)
  • Incognito mode
  • Different device(s)

---

Let us know what you find!

@Ste Wright

Thanks for getting back,

I assure first 3 points are right.

and coming to the following

  • Is the Issue Key correct? - YES
  • What happens when you type in the Key - does a search box appear showing results? This should appear when entering a parent - No results are shown in search box
  • Is the "issue" in Project A an issue type which is a direct child of an Epic (often types like Story, Task, Bug, etc)? - issue type in Project B is an Audit
  • Do you have sufficient permissions in Project A to link an issue to the Epic? You need at least Browse Projects and Edit Issues permissions - YES
