Kanban board - cannot see the product backlog

I would like to use Kanban board for management of our dev tasks. The article about Atlassian blogs mentiones that Product Owner can then easily re-prioritize the product backlog and the team takes the items as they need them. However, in the Kanban board, I cannot see the backlog. What am I doing wrong?
