We have a dedicated instance, Jira Software 8.20.10, and noticed by accident that we were not able any more to configure the Kanban backlog. That is, the option to have as a left column shown all the time "Kanban backlog" is not shown any more. I tried different things (creating a new project, a new kanban from a project and / or filter, ...) but I cannot see the Kanban backlog column any more, and no Backlog item in the left navigation shows up.
Has anyone any idea what is going wrong here? I am Jira administrator on that instance, and tried to find additional information about that issue, but failed.
I created an example project based on Kanban, and my expectation was to see a separate colum named "Kanban backlog".
I get this
Looking at the documentation https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwareserver/configuring-columns-938845277.html#Configuringcolumns-enablingkanbanbacklog I see this
And I have not found any project or system configuration that could hide the kanban backlog. If I remember correctly (long time ago) there was enablement of Kanban backlog necessary somewhere in the beta feature ... but that is long ago. Now, the Kanban backlog should be there all the time.

Can you please show us the navigation options that display in the left side panel when you are viewing the board itself?
My company is using Jira Data Center v8.20.10. I'm not a Jira Admin, but I did create a new Kanban board for an existing project, and I do see the Kanban backlog column when I go to configure the board.

In the meanwhile, I got the tip about the Jira dark features (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/backlog-view-for-kanban-board-multiple-projects-on-jira-server/qaq-p/1707634). Following that, I was able to enable the 2 features in our instance:
This solved the problem for us. I do not know why that was disabled in the beginning.

Hi @mliebelt ,
"If your kanban board has a separate backlog (a Backlog tab), move the backlog back to the board using the Columns tab under board settings."
After that put an issue on it.
