Kanban Board Backlog View Glitch

Deleted user April 20, 2020

Hi all, after upgrading our Jira Server from 8.1.0 to 8.8.0 we noticed, that some of the Kanban Board Backlog views are scrambled. Since I wasn't the one that configured our Jira (and the last admin quit), any ideas what could cause this issue and how to fix it?

Tried different browser, cleared browser cache and also re-indexed all the Jira tickets beforehand.

@[deleted] I found the following, it is definitely a bug that others made Atlassian aware of it:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-19928

@Fadoua but as I see this was fixed in version 8.1, and we have 8.8, so seems the bug is still present. So unsure how to proceed here.

Just one additional piece of information, we did upgrade our Postgresql database to 11.3 before the Jira upgrade. It was version 7.2 beforehand.

@[deleted] You did the right thing by ugrading to Postgresql 11. It is a supported platform for Jira 8.8

I promise you to look further into your overlapping board issue.

@[deleted] it does say on the ticket that this issue has been reported in version 8.0 that means it could apply to your version as well. There is no workaround at the moment. All you can do is watch the issue so that when there is an update you get notified.

I did leave a comment:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-19896

They mentioned that upgrading to version 8.1.0 will fix it. I entered a comment stating that it is happening in version 8.8.0

Best,

Fadoua

Thank you! I added myself to watcher list.

Though not sure how often do you re-open closed tickets, or will there be a duplicate opened since the issue is still occurring?

Hi,

one of our front-end developers found the issue, it was a missing priority icon, that was causing the issue. He found a similar issue explained here with a troubleshoot from your team:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Priority-Normal-Icon-Is-Missing-Jira-Cloud/qaq-p/686919

We changed an image, that was missing (not sure why) from /images/icons/priority_normal.gif to /images/icons/priorities/blocker.svg

Now it shows correctly:

Thank you for any ideas and involvement, it still might be some kind of bug that during the update image path was changed or the picture was lost, but this troubleshoot fixed it for us.

@Fadoua thanks for the reply, I checked several project boards and in all that have a backlog view, there is this UI issue. Since this issue is for all users, I would rule out the browser settings, and also we tried clearing cache and checked on different browsers.

And all the plugins for Jira Software are enabled. There were several errors after the upgrade, but they were all removed by updating several Jira plugins thare required to be updated (don't remember which were those).

Let me check @[deleted] and see if I can find something. I noticed it myself before.

@Danny Thank you for checking if it is a known bug!

Apologies @Fadoua

I overlooked this bug due to the affects version not corresponding to 8.8.

I agree @Danny with you. It does say it was fixed in 8.1.0 however as you could see in the ticket that this issue was reported in version 8.0.0

It is obvious that the upgrade isn't a fix since we have a user who is seeing this behaviour in a higher version.

Yes, an unfortunate outcome of upgrading to 8.8 it seems.

I don't think your previous admin misconfigured anything. I noticed that behaviour myself that resolved after some time by itself.

Do you see this behaviour on every board? Did you check the modules for your Jira Software Plugin (under System Plugins) if they all are enabled?

I am thinking it is more a UI issue than Jira Configuration. Did you try to change the browser settings?

When you upgraded did you see any errors on the log?

Best,

Fadoua

As an addition to @Fadoua answer, I have checked jira.atlassian.com and I can find not reference to this as a known bug.

Hope this helps,

Danny
