We are current users of Jira Software (Server license) and are looking at Jira Service Desk for our IT Service operations. We currently run with server license for Jira Software, but if we implement Jira Service Desk we would consider the Data center version due to some of its features (single sign on, etc...) If we put both Jira and JSD in the same environment, would that mean we would have to upgrade our Jira software install to be data center as well?

Single sign on is available for Jira Software and Jira Service Desk for server and for data centre.
This article may be helpful for you. It is recommended to have your Jira Software and Jira Service desk on the same server to benefit from the full integration options.
