Jira issue numbers increase not 1 by 1

Hi, all!

After issues amount  reached 10000 in one of our project next issues are created with any numbers more than 10000, but numbers change not 1 by 1. Now we have more 20000 numbers in issue keys and approximately 1500 new issues. I checked logs and didn't find anything.  It happens only in one projects. In MySQL table "project" parameter pcounter for this project increases continuously. Thanks.

The matter is concluded  in mail handler work. Some letters contained "smiles", so they couldn't be transformed to Jira issues. But "pcounter" in "project" table was being continuously updated. After letters deletion the problem was fixed.
