Jira doesn't work

Karen T July 16, 2018

Hi,

My licence key expired many months ago but I was using Jira Software normally (without updates of course). And after I was given a Jira Core Evaluation license key (this was gaven by a support person from Atlassian). This last one expired the last friday so I had to change the licence key for the old one. I did it on saturday and was everything okey. I was working on sunday too and it was still good. But today in the morning, I couldn't create tiickets (look the picture). Please help me.

Hi Karen,

When an evaluation license for Jira Core, Jira Software, or Jira Service Desk expires, the functionality of the entire Jira site can stop working.   This isn't true of other license types like Commercial, academic, developer, etc.  However this is something that is actually expected to happen with evaluation licenses.

You can go to the Cog Icon -> Applications -> Versions and Licenses as an administrator.  This will show you what licenses you have for your Jira product(s).   If you are not using the licensing features of a product like Jira Core evaluation, and you have another product like Software or Service Desk with a valid license, the you can simply delete the expired license by clicking the trash icon there.

However if you need to license there products, I would recommend going to https://my.atlassian.com/

and from there you can purchase a new license as needed.  One you have this new license key entered into your Jira site you should be all set.

We only have one product so I only see one licence key (see the picture01 please).

I am not sure if the problem is about Jira and its expired licence, because when I changed the evaluation licence for the old one, I was working well saturday and sunday.

I don't know what it's the problem, maybe while I was working (changing workflow, delete type of registers,etc).

I was thinking about a backup. As I know, we have a backup every day for Jira, what do you think? will it be usefulpicture01.png

Hi Karen,

Thank you for this information.  I do not believe this is a licensing problem anymore.  From your screenshot, I can see that you do not have an evaluation license, but instead you do have a commercial license installed.

Hence your license is not the reason this is failing.  I did some more research on this problem.  And I came across this KB: NullPointerException when creating issue, editing issue, move issue, accessing the Screen tab from the Project

Given your first error, it looks like you might have some level of data corruption in the Jira database.  This KB will have you run the two following SQL queries:

select * from optionconfiguration;

and

select id from issuetype order by id;

Depending on the results of each query, we can then better understand if you need to complete the resolution steps in that KB to fix this problem.
