Jira doesn't start after upgrade from 6.4.8 to 7.1

did a rapid install of 7.1 overtop 6.4.8 and now Jira does not start.
the website gives a 404. the jira service is running, server rebooted, service restarted, clean java installs, clean java updates to latest versions, re-downloaded the installer

Okay... Well what do the logs say when starting up? The catalina and the application log. Perhaps it clobbered your custom server.xml settings and you haven't restored the proper connector settings, so it's just on 8090?

What do you mean the page gives a 404? Do you mean the URL fails to resolve or are you stating that tomcat or apache is giving a 500?

You should be opening an issue with Atlassian Support.
