Jira board query affecting other boards?

Kirsten Wakefield December 1, 2023

I created a new board under an existing project which has multiple existing boards - each board has their own JQL query. I created a JQL query based on the viewing of newly created Epics and applied it to my new board. This unfortunately applied to all boards on the project - this makes no sense to me as I was creating the query off of my board and not at a project level. I must have done something wrong - any advice please? Thanks all!

Hi @Kirsten Wakefield

Did you copy an exiting board on the project and then edited the JQL query from the General section in the board configuration and saved this, than this is expected.

Or dit you search for issues and created a new JQL and saved this with a new name and used that query on the board.

If both cases don't apply and you did as you stated, I would contact Atlassian Support, as when you create a board from scratch it asks if you want this on a new project, an existing project or an existing filter.

Hi Marc, thanks for your response.

I was not prompted to add my  board to "a new project, an existing project or an existing filter ". I created a brand new board and it applied to an existing project as I do not have admin rights on the project. I then created a new JQL and saved it as a new name and applied it to my board. This query then applied to other boards in the project.

I'll contact Atlassian Support, thanks for your help!
