Hi - just double checking, always a bit nervous about hitting any delete button. I'm an admin for a Jira Board and want to delete some old Epics that are no longer in use. There are some  Stories, Tasks and sub tasks attached/linked to these that i want to keep. Some are done , others in progress. Basically i'm just looking for confirmation that deleting the Epics won't delete the tasks etc. Thank you

Completely understand the nerves. Let me do a quick test for you:

Hello @Geraldine Bingley

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Regardless of whether or not it would result in deleting child issues (which it should not), what problem are you trying to solve by deleting the Epics?

If you delete the Epics, and you have no solution for backing up that data, the Epic data will be permanently and unrecoverably deleted. You won't ever be able to restore it.

As a rule I say that it is very rare that deleting issues is a good idea.

I strongly urge you to not delete the Epics and instead talk to us about the real problem you are trying to solve so that we can offer alternative solutions.
