Jira and Lucene

Hi,

we have some questions about Lucene and JIRA.
The questions are related to JIRA versions that does not support NFS.

• The information the search engine handles, is that from DB or attachments or both ?

• Is it possible to store the search engine data ( indices, cache and such ) on "local" disk separated from JIRA_HOME ?

• And in the case above, what happens if there is no search engine data ? Will it be automatically created and how long time will that take ?

1. AFAIK, only issues are searched, not attachments. There's a plugin doing this, I believe, but you have to search for it

2. Yes. There's ln -s at least :). You can configure the index and attachments directory but it's not easy. From 5.1 and up you cannot change the location of the index (you need to put your fingers into the DB).So ln -s will do it better.

3. See above. The time to do indexing depends on how many issues you have in your JIRA, number of custom fields, the HW capabilities of the machine, disk speed ....
