Jira Work Management | Cloning Cards

Hello, I am cloning a card from one board (project) to a different board. The card clones fine, except, it does not pull the value(content) of my custom fields. The custom fields are visible, but the content is not there. Label and Due date are the only things being pulled overTheClonee.pngWhatIClone.png

Hello @Elizabeth Butler

Is the source project a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? Same question for the destination project.

You can find that information at the bottom left corner when viewing the project, or from the Type column of the View all projects page under the Projects menu.

Both the source and destination projects are Team Managed?

Regarding the custom fields that you have:

  1. What types of fields are they (text, dropdown, etc)?
  2. Are they Globally defined fields being reused in Team Managed projects? By that I mean did you set them up by clicking on the gear icon near your avatar and navigating to Issues > Custom Fields?
    https://yourBaseUrl/secure/admin/ViewCustomFields.jspa
Or did you set them up in each project individually by going to Project Settings > Issues Types, and clicking on the Create A Field options available there?

Both source and destination are Team Managed.

There are a copious amount of fields. Text and dropdowns.

They were added just through Project Settings. It didn't work. I just added them Globally, and it didn't work.

Thank you!

I did it. Thank you! I found the issue of this.. but it led to another issue with Tasks :) .. i'll create another question when I can nail it down. Your response helped me find the answer. Thank you

How are you executing the Clone Issue process? The native Clone function selectable from the ... button on an issue doesn't allow you to select a different project as the destination for the new issue.

When the fields are added in a Team Managed project through Project Settings > Create A Field, those fields are unique to that project. It doesn't matter if they have the exact same name as fields added to another Team Managed project - they are considered different fields. Jira would not know how to map the values from the field in one project to the field in a different project because they are considered different fields.

Some months ago Atlassian made it possible for us to use Globally defined fields in Team Managed projects. But you have to have created those Globally managed fields first, and then added them to your project by searching for them, making sure you select the one that you made in the Settings > Issues > Custom Fields page.

You then use that field in your Team Managed projects. Creating a Globally defined field of the same name after having used locally defined fields does not by itself mean the data would clone properly. You would have to add the new Globally defined fields to the Team Managed projects and then copy the data from the locally defined fields to the new Globally defined fields.
