Jira Server to Cloud Migration

Hello - We are planning a Jira server to Jira cloud migration project. There are about 140 Jira projects with 500 users in scope. Can you provide an estimate on how many Jira developers are required and tentative timeline. Also can you please let us know the specific skill that are mandatory for these developers for a successful migration ? We have about 3 months timeline for this migration.

There's too little information to say here - really, you need someone to do a level of discovery into what is needed to achieve a successful migration.

Hi @Somenath Roy ,

Not sure if you need any "Jira Devs", as for the estimated timeline, it depends on a few things eg. how many projects do you have, how many tickets does each of these project hold, what is the Attachment count for each project.

When migrating to the cloud:

• Use the Server to Cloud Migration plugin: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1222010/jira-cloud-migration-assistant?tab=overview&hosting=datacenter

You will have to go through this thoroughly prior to the migration https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/what-gets-migrated-with-the-jira-cloud-migration-assistant/

Approach I'd recommend:

• Create a Sandbox env, and duplicate the PROD setup in the Sandbox as well
• Use JCMA in the Sandbox, to migrate to a Test Cloud Site
• Ask a few members of the team to test the projects that were migrated
• During this migration attempt you can debug any error that you face to get an idea of what errors will need to be addressed
• Using the Sandbox gives you the freedom to make changes without breaking the PROD site as well

I'm going to +1 to @Ste Wright 's answer as well though, having a Atlassian Partner helping you guide along the migration would be a great start.
