Hello @Ayesha

Are you saying that this is occurring, and you want it to stop occurring?

When you say they are "moved to the backlog" are you referring to the backlog for a Scrum board or a Kanban board, or are you saying that the Status of the issue is being changed?

Are you working with Jira self-hosted or Jira Cloud? When you click on the Help button near your avatar and select About Jira, what information do you get?

If this activity is occurring and you want it to stop occurring, that is not something Jira would be doing on its own. Is there an entry in the Issue History details that indicates who is making the change? Have you contacted that person to ask how they are causing the change to happen?

If the change is not being manually executed by a user, then a customization or integration must have been implemented by a Jira Administrator to make that happen. An Automation Rule could be causing that to happen. A separate process could cause this to happen by using the Jira API to make the change. If you are not a Jira Administrator, report this problem to your Jira Administrators and ask them to investigate what customization or Automation might be causing this to occur.

Hi @Ayesha -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

There is nothing built-in which would do that behavior.

I recommend looking at some example issues with this symptom, and review their issue history to learn what / who is moving them to the backlog, and when that is happening.

If that does not help identify the cause, please answer the following:

  • what type of project are you using: company-managed or team-managed?
  • what type of board are you using: Scrum or Kanban?
  • when did you notice this symptom start happening?

Kind regards,
Bill
