Jira Epic has no start date field

Some of my Jira epics have a start date and a due date and some do not. I want all my epics to have a start date. The reason I want this is so that I can see the epic in Tempo's Planning app.

How can I do this?

i was able to add the "start date" field to the screen using "field your field" from the actions dropdown and then searching for "start date" in the popup. it told me which screen i needed to add the field to, so i followed the link to the Configure Screen page and added the start date field there

@Peter Miller couple of questions:

  • Are the epics in the same projects? - The configuration of your tickets may be different between different projects, and since you have development and release fields on one and not the other I suspect that this is what has happened.
  • Is there a more fields section at the bottom of the section that you haven't expanded? - It may be that the Start date and Due date are hidden when empty

yes the epics are in different projects. i know they are different but i would like to add this field to all epics.

there is a more fields section, but it does not have the start date field - only story points
