Hi Folks
I'm building a dashboard for my squads and I'd like to add a Velocity View
Does anyone know the JQL query used for the standard Jira Velocity report which shows Velocity Per sprint.
The best I've been able to do is
project = X AND sprint IN closedSprints() AND status IN ("Completed", "Done", "Deployed to production") AND issuetype IN ("Story", "Bug") AND resolved >= "2026-01-01"
Using Custom Chart I'm able to show per month - the current sprint is correct but the previous sprint points is incorrect :(
Hi @Jamie Scott ,
Good question!
If you’re open to using a third-party app, I’d recommend trying the Sprint Report in Time in Status, an app my team built.
It lets you analyze completed sprints and includes a Team Velocity chart that compares committed vs. completed work for the last seven sprints, along with an average trend line.
To evaluate an active sprint, you can use the Burndown chart.
We also recently released a new feature that shows exactly what’s included in each metric—for example, which tasks were carried over, added, or removed during the sprint.
Hope this helps!
Hi @Jamie Scott
For an alternate solution, if you would be interested in a mktplace app for this requirement, pls do take a look at
Agile Velocity & Sprint Status Gadgets
The app comes with few dashboard gadgets to track team member's / team's velocity / productivity based on story points / time spent / issue count in a sprint and also track sprint status with multiple parameters.

Hi @Jamie Scott,
Looks like you’re using Custom Charts, an app from the Atlassian Marketplace. In this case, it would be best to address this question directly with the vendor of that app.
If you’re open to trying a different Marketplace app, our Great Gadgets app offers a Team Velocity gadget that can display velocity for the sprints of a specific board. There’s no need for a complex JQL—you simply select the agile board, and the chart calculates velocity based on past sprints.
This gadget has the advantage of offering additional metrics. So you can visualize not only the completed work, but also the initial commitment (at the start of the sprint), final committed (after eventual scope changes), amount of scope change or percentage of completion.
On its optional Data tab, this gadget can include a report for very sprint with details data.
Danut.
