I have a self-hosted Jira Core and Service Desk both hosted on the same domain but on different ports.
http://<servername>:8080
http://<servername>:8081
When I'm both a Jira User and a Service Desk agent then I login to Jira with no problem. But when I'm just a Jira user and NOT a service desk agent, the I get redirected to our service desk portal after login. I login through
http://<servername>:8081/secure/Dashboard.jspa
but get redirected to
http://<servername>:8081/servicedesk/customer/portals
There is no way to get back to Jira from servicedesk portal obviously. Does anybody know how to change the after login URL?

I realize this ticket is kind of old, but I had a similar thing happen to me so I figured I'd post in case anyone else ran into it. I added a user who was a customer in my existing projects as a Project Lead, Administrator, and Agent to a new project for his department and it kept redirecting him to the "Help Center" like he was a customer. The solution ended up being that I needed to add the user to the "jira-servicedesk-users" group.
I guess I would have assumed that adding him as a Project Lead/Administrator to a project would have automatically added him to jira-servicedesk-users, but maybe there's something I am not aware of.
Customer accounts should be redirected to the portals, as that's all they have access to.
Jira user accounts (including agents) should land in Jira proper.
My best guess is that your account is just a customer, and has no access to Jira.

No, it will only redirect from the dashboard, if you have anonymous access in projects, you can go to the projects without redirection.

but they cannot enter the "main" page of JIRA Core (that includes System Dashboard)? In my case they cannot... And we just simply want to show filtered results of PUBLIC Service Desk project in a gadget.

Are your users Jira users, JSD Agents or Customers?
