We commonly create tickets using Slack, but don't want to have the threads synced because of the noise it creates. Is there a way to turn the "Sync Thread" option off by default?
I hate this. Can we pls disable this by default?
Came here too because this is super annoying and noisy. I don't need notifications in 3 places (Slack, Jira, and email). This really makes the Jira integration noisy and annoying to use, making something that has been a quick shortcut into something that requires tending and maintenance to make it usable again. Please let us turn off syncing threads.

Hi @Jeffrey
There is currently no official way to keep the “Sync Thread” option unchecked by default. The official Jira Cloud for Slack app does not provide any configuration that controls this behavior.
What we know
The official documentation does not mention any settings that change the default state of the “Sync Thread” option.
Recent discussions in the Atlassian Community indicate that the “Sync Thread” feature was temporarily disabled by Atlassian while they work on improvements Link https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-questions/Slack-quot-Sync-Thread-quot-feature-no-longer-available/qaq-p/3126445 . Because of this, the behavior may change again once the feature is re-enabled.
Even when the feature is active, there is no global setting that keeps it permanently unchecked.
Alternatives and possible workarounds
Unchecking the option manually is currently the only native method available.
Third-party apps such as Slack Integration+ (Appfire) allow disabling automatic synchronization, but they are not part of Atlassian’s official integration.
Wait for future updates from Atlassian, as the feature is being revised and may gain new configuration options.
Depending on the Slack workspace, it is possible to build a Workflow that opens the issue creation dialog without enabling thread sync, although this is only a workaround.
Summary
Right now, it is not possible to change the default behavior. There is no setting for this in Jira Cloud for Slack. The only options are manually unchecking the setting or using a third-party integration. Atlassian is currently revisiting the feature, so changes may arrive in future updates.

I agree with this as well.
We control information access in Slack's Private Channels, but Jira does not synchronize with Slack's access permissions.
While Slack delegates the authority to manage channel members to channel owners,
Jira is managed by administrators, making it unrealistic to synchronize viewing permissions.
If a member unintentionally enables Sync Thread,
content that should be controlled within a Private Channel could be viewed by unintended members through Sync Thread.
We believe the Sync Thread feature itself poses an information leakage risk.
Therefore, we request at a minimum that the feature be turned off by default, and ideally, that the feature be disableable for the entire organization.
