Jira (Business) - Unable to edit "Category" field options as ADMIN

Looking for some help here, a bit stuck.

I have a "Business project" (Team Managed) and I have Admin access to it (all permissions ON). However, the default "Category" field (which allows you to Categorize work items in your list view) has no values, won't let me add values, is marked locked and other higher level Jira admins at my company also can't edit it.

Is this a version / level of service issue (think ours is "Standard") or something else? If there's a work-around to making a custom field do the same thing (issue grouping), I am all ears.

Thanks!

Hello @Steven Balduino

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

This is not related to the subscription plan you have.

To add values to the Category field in a Business project go to the List tab.

Add the Category field as a column.

Start typing a value into an empty Category field. You will see an option appear to add a new value. Complete typing in the new value then click that option.

Jira doesn't support entering new values for this field by typing them into the field from the Details view of an individual issue, as is possible for the Labels field for example.

Hi @Steven Balduino

Grouping can also be achieved by setting components or labels as suggested by @Trudy Claspill

Or use a custom field like single select

@Marc - Devoteam

I did not suggest use of either Components or Labels. I explained how to add values to the Business project Category field, as asked by the author.

HI @Trudy Claspill

The author also mentioned a workaround if categories won't suffice, that's why I mentioned Components or Labels
