Hello Atlassian Community,

I am experiencing an unusual layout issue on one of my Jira boards, as shown in the attached image.

The Problem:

The cards (tickets) are visually overflowing their respective columns (e.g., "TO DO," "IN PROGRESS," "IN REVIEW"). As you can see by the red lines I drew in the image, the card content is extending beyond the defined column boundaries, causing a break in the visual separation and requiring horizontal scrolling, which makes the board difficult to navigate.

  • The column widths seem too narrow, or the minimum card width is too large.

My Environment:

  • Jira Product: Jira Software Cloud

  • Board Type: Kanban

  • Browser: Chrome

  • Screen Resolution: 1920x1080

Has anyone else encountered this specific issue where card content causes the entire column to stretch or overflow the board container? Any suggestions on what settings (either board configuration or card layout) might be causing this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help!

Welcome @Jean Gustavo Horn

Is this happening on other browsers as well? Is this happening in the incognito mode?

Hi @Jean Gustavo Horn ,

This usually happens when the card layout shows too many fields (or fields with long text), which forces cards to exceed the column width and causes horizontal scrolling.

Things to check:

  • Board settings → Card layout: remove non-essential fields, especially long text or custom fields.

  • Make sure the browser zoom is set to 100%.

  • Try an incognito window or another browser to rule out extensions or cached styling issues.

If the issue persists, it’s likely a Jira Cloud UI regression and may resolve itself after an Atlassian update.

If this helps, feel free to accept the answer so others can find it more easily.

Regards

Karim
