Jira Automation to get Field Value

Hi

I have a Jira Business Form with a custom field which is a list of user names.  The idea is that a UI Operator will create a form and select a user name.  The form works fine and no issue.

The challenge now is to implement the following automation:

1. When issue is created, then look up field name and get value.
   • eg field name OPERATOR = "Joe Blog"
2. Then using Field value, (Joe Blog), assign issue to an EPIC already called "Joe Blog".

The idea is that we want to create an EPIC for each user and add notes to the EPIC based on teh user.

Hi Michael,

I am a little confused. Does the Epic already exist before the other issues is created?

If so, Epic A exists with the summary of Joe Blog.

Now, Task B is created and in a custom field is the value of Joe Blog.

Now you want to connect the new Task B as a child of the Epic A. 

Is that right?

Yes the Epic already exists.  So when the ticket is created, I would like to read the username field, eg Joe Blog, the based of that field assign it to the associated Epic.
