Jira Advanced Search - before/after keywords

... AND status = Closed AND status changed to Closed after startOfMonth() before endOfMonth() 

Surprisingly it works in my JIRA 7.6, but why? What are the before/after keywords? There is no such reference in https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwareserver076/advanced-searching-941595912.html

It is not conflicting. You should click on the "Advanced searching - operators reference" reference on the page you provided:

Hi Alexey, the page I landed on from google is called Advanced Searching. It has a Reference section, with an Operators row, with a "list of operators". But this list of operators is actually not a list of all the Operators.

If you don't like the term conflicting we can call it misleading. 

Do you plan to update the misleading documentation?
