JIRA workflows button not showing up after import

Ashish Rajora August 21, 2018

Hi There,

We have used the JIRA installation under the License SEN-xxxxxxxx to carry out a pilot project to move out data to Confluence and also prove JIRA-confluence integration. As a requirement for this POC we had imported the data from an existing JIRA instance within our organisation into the standalone instance used for POC(SEN-xxxxxxxx).

We realised that after the import, the workflow state transition button is not appearing and hence there is no way for me to move the ticket from say state "Draft" to state "being reviewed". This is working fine in the JIRA instance from where the import was created.

Could you please let me know if we are missing something here.

@Ashish Rajora, I redacted your SEN as this is not needed in a public forum. An import doesn’t import any workflows. You should simply look at the project settings and the workflow screen and ensure the existing workflow is defined as desired.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the prompt response. So, if I understand you correctly, we will have to recreate the workflows in the new JIRA instance. There is no other way to import the existing workflow into a new installation?

This would be achieved via a backup and restore of your data. If you want to import data from one instance/project to another instance/project and have the same workflows, permissions, etc. you would need to first configure the new project to have the same configuration. Export/Import is only associated w/ the issue data not any configuration data.

@Jack Brickey Ok, Since I am very new the product I would tell you my understanding. The import/export feature imports the details like User Logins, Webhooks, Plugin Data, Ticket information, User permissions etc.

To recreate the same ecosystem on the new instance specific to the workflows, How can we do it using Atlassian's import/export feature. Apologies in advance for the naive nature of my question but want to get my head around it.

Also, it is worth mentioning that we are trying to import data from Cloud JIRA installation to JIRA version x.x standalone/server installation.

@Ashish Rajora, I haven't done this myself so my input would only be informational. I would recommend searching the Community and also the Atlassian documentation. Here is one thread I found in the Community that might prove helpful.

Others may chime in and provide further guidance.
