JIRA notification from user email address

When JIRA notifications are sent out from issue events - e.g. issue fixed, the name the email shows is the person that triggered the event, but the email address is the jira system email address. Sometimes I would like to reply to the email, but it's easy to forget that the email address you are replying to is not actually the person who sent it. Is it possible to have the email address be the email of the person who triggered the event.

The name on the email address shows up as "Person name (JIRA)", but it would be great if the email address was their actual email address.

You dont want to do that. The reason that JIRA email address is used and the personal component of the related user is referred, is because replies to the messages need to be captured in JIRA. Theoretically, your comment goes back to JIRA is appended to the issue, and the other users (all parties involved) are kept up to date.

If you were to use the change the JIRA from: address to the initiating users address, you would introduce out of band communication that would split information from the official JIRA record vs email threads. It would end badly.

Also, from a technical perspective, you will find that setting the sender address to be 'something elser' will have many technical issues, adjusting to be be a different 'system' email is one thing, masquerading as actual users is something else entirely. You may be able to make this work for an internal domain, but consider remote users mail systems, this kind of email may be marked as fraudulent, possilbly resulting in delivery failure.

Thank you. I didn't realize you could configure JIRA to accept replies to issues/comments by email. This should be sufficient.

See https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-7108 for an open feature request. Go through the comments for some suggestions/workarounds.

Thanks for pointing to the feature request. Unfortunately, I cannot see any any workaround in there despite the idea of using Atlassian's ServiceDesk product, or configuring an incoming mail handler, which brings its own problems with not stripping Outlook quotes (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-14543) and attaching mail's issue icons to the issue by accident (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-60810).
