JIRA Plan - Group by Component not filtering child items

When I set up grouping by component (or even labels), it filters the top level items correctly into those groups.

However all child items of the those top level items are shown even if they do not match the group by filter (but exist in the overall plan query results). In the below one, ideally only the second epics should be displayed?

Hi @Ben Whyte ,

I'm assuming "Platform Health" component is added to SVNEXT-4505 issue as well?
If so, this would then be expected as Plans behave in a way that if you would add specific component to a parent, you would still be able to see all child issues even if they don't have this specific component. You could change "Filter" of the plan and specify just one hierarchy level, but I'm not sure if that's acceptable in your case or not. 🤔

Additionally, you could check JAC if there are any open suggestion related to mentioned behavior. (or, if you're part of Atlassian, I'm guessing you could use some internal channels as well 🙂)

Cheers,
Tobi

Hi Tobi,

"Platform Health" component is part of the parent SVNEXT-4505 issue which makes sense why it gets displayed there.

But I would have thought it should also filter the child issues too but looks like that isn't the design as you say.

Unfortunately I wanted to see multiple levels of hierarchy. I might need to resort to creating multiple Plans instead.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I couldn't find a JAC item so I have created this for future consideration. If anyone else is interested, please vote :)
