Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue that appears to be the same as the one described on this Atlassian Community post at 2026 may.

However, my affected site is this one:

'maxpar-team-dados.atlassian.net/'

Here's what happened in my case:

I was using the Jira Free plan when my site was automatically upgraded to a Standard trial after the number of users exceeded the Free plan limit. I wasn't aware that this automatic upgrade had occurred.

When the trial expired, Atlassian attempted to process a payment, but since I had never added any billing information, the payment failed and the subscription was cancelled.

Now, I can't ctivate the Free plan again.

From what I can see, there are no outstanding invoices or active subscriptions in my billing portal, but the system still seems to think my workspace has a payment issue, preventing me from reactivating the Free plan.

So far I have already:

  • Cleared my browser cache and cookies and signed in again.
  • Checked the billing section in admin.atlassian.com (no unpaid invoices or active subscriptions).
  • Tried reactivating through my.atlassian.com.
  • Reduced the number of users to comply with the Free plan limit.

Since this appears to be the same issue reported in the community post above, could an Atlassian employee please review my site and remove the payment restriction? My project data is still within the recovery period, and I would simply like to reactivate the Free plan.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @Gabriel Gon

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

I would not wait for an Atlassian employee to pick this up here. This Community is a peer forum, and staff cannot change billing or account state from a thread. This needs a ticket with the Atlassian Billing, Licensing and Pricing team, which you can contact even without a paid subscription: https://www.atlassian.com/company/contact/purchasing-licensing. Select Your account > Reactivate a subscription, and raise it from the account that is the organization admin and billing contact.

I would treat this as urgent. Permanent deletion happens roughly 15 days after deactivation, and the restore window is about 14 days, as documented here: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-articles/Atlassian-Jira-JSM-Confluence-Free-Tier-Inactivity-amp-Data/ba-p/3251237. (Thank you @Trudy P Claspill

Include the site URL, the cancellation date, and the fact that no payment method was ever stored, since the trial upgrade happened automatically. While the ticket is open, do not delete the site. That removes the recovery path. Also check in admin.atlassian.com > Billing > Manage subscriptions whether a canceled Jira subscription is still attached, because Free often cannot be added on top until support clears it.

Does the site still appear under your organization in admin.atlassian.com?

Cheers, Martin

Thank you for the suggestion, Martin. I didn't think about opening a support ticket because the last time I saw this issue, it was resolved here in the Community.

In the end, I opened a support ticket, and the support team has already resolved my problem. Thanks again!
