This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Moving a Sub-Task to In Progress does not Transition its Parent's to the Same Status

I'm looking for a solution to change JIRA behaviour so if a sub-task is moved from Open to In Progress, it will automatically update parent story to In Progress too.

This seems to be right solution. I want to double check if I can use this Misc Workflow Extensions plugin to work with JIRA Agile Simplified Workflow?

Technically, you can add functions to the simplified workflows.

However, it's not supported, some do actually fail, and it's possible for your users to remove them.  Editing a simplified workflow is simply not recommended.
