Is there any way to get a desktop alert via JIRA when a new issue is raised?

Hi,

We use JIRA as a workload tool. We currently have our work ques set up as PIE charts for different types of tasks. I am wondering if there is anyway a desktop alert can be pushed upon the creation of a new JIRA issue? That way, my team will know that they need to open JIRA immediately

Not out of the box. Being web based I don't believe it would be feasible. The best you can setup notifications for issue creation, but that would be via emails.
