Currently, JIRA update emails are irrelevant 95% of the time. Is there any way that some additional information (the action that is being taken) can be communicated in the subject line of the update emails rather than needing to open the body to figure out whether I need to read the email?

Currently, it's not possible to customize system notifications. We had a feature request suggesting the ability to customize the subject, but it was closed as "Won't do" because it had only one vote since 2011. - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-30217 Feel free to raise a new feature request on jira.atlassian.com (Project JRACLOUD) adding more information about why this feature would be important for your environment.
