Is there a way to update the status without updating the workflow model?

We have a very open role model for JIRA as our team is very small, we did not want to introduce a heavy role and permission model for the workflow, so everyone in our team, is able to set any status transitions. Unfortunately a dev has set some issue to status, which are not yet reached by the process, so I would like to set them back to the actual status.

Do I have to implement a screen and transition for this or is there another admin way of updating these issues back to the correct status?
