Is there a way to transition a jira issue after a bamboo deployment?

Currently using Jira server and bamboo server. They're synced up and whatnot. I can see that an issue has been deployed by looking at the development section of the issue.

I'm wanting to automatically transition issues to the next stage of the workflow when they are deployed to the environment.

I've seen that the cloud version has a trigger for this, but our server version doesn't have this trigger.

I looked into the bamboo post deploy trigger, but I'm not really wanting to create another plan just to transition JIRA issues, nor do I want to rebuild the plan when the deployment finishes.

There must be a way to tie into the development section. If the issue knows it has been deployed, then I should be able to transition it based on that.

Any thoughts?
