Is there a way to track when a ticket is moved from the backlog to board?

We are having no problem moving a ticket from backlog to board. However, we would like for there to be a way to see when a ticket was moved much in the same way we can see, in the history, when a ticket's status changes. Can this be done?

Hello @mark.hiblong

You can try Time in Status for Jira Cloud and its Status Entrance Date report. It shows the date an issue moves to each of your workflow statuses.

  • choose the Status Entrance Date report
  • define the date ranges

Then you can export report to CSV or XLSX files for further analysis or share it with your colleagues using the JSON Data Feed functionality.

This add-on is developed by my SaaSJet team and is free for teams up to 10 users

Hope you find it helpful

Hi @mark.hiblong and welcome to the Community!

In most circumstances, moving a ticket from the backlog to the board is actually a status change. The columns on your board (including the backlog) are essentially columns mapped to an underlying status.

If you look into the history of status changes, the moment when an issue moves from the status mapped to you backlog into another status, is the moment the issue was moved to the board.

An exception to that practice may occur on a scrum board. Right there, the moment an issue moves from backlog to board is the start date of the sprint an issue is in.

Hope this helps!

Hi @mark.hiblong,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

So the status change is what's indicate when the issue is moving from the backlog to the board if you are using a Kanban board, since each column on the board is tied to one or more statuses. If you look at the board settings > columns you can see how the statuses are mapped. And if you are using a Scrum board, what makes the issue to show up on the active sprint is when the sprint field is set and the sprint is started.

Hi @mark.hiblong

Welcome to the community !!

If you are open for a mktplace app, you can try out our plugin,

Time in Status Reports

The add-on provides the time in each status for the entire lifecycle of the issue, based on the date range, assignees and multiple other filters.

For your specific requirement, we have a report which provides when the status was changed and by whom.

The app is free upto 10 users
