Is there a way to stop all work type statuses showing on board view?

Prior to the update, it was possible to select specific workflows for the board view, meaning only the work types and statuses belonging to that workflow would show.

Now, all workflows are displayed on one board, creating an absolute dog's breakfast.

More to the point, when I filter by a specific task type that has a specific workflow to try and make the board be of any use again, the board still shows all the task types from all the other workflows, giving us a wide swath of blank columns to wade through.

Does anyone know how to make this work properly like it used to? I want to be able to only show statuses from the workflows I'm interested in on the board and not literally all of them, which is anything but helpful and no idea how it passed QC.

Hello @Sam Lloyd

Can you confirm that this concerns a Business project/space?

The ability to toggle a board to display content based on the workflow was previously available only on Business projects.

If so the change you're referring to are described here:

https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-articles/See-all-workflows-and-map-status-columns-in-business-project/ba-p/3113961

For the community to help you debug your current experience we will need more information.

What work types are in your project?

What is the workflow for each type?

How have you mapped the statuses to columns? Does every status have its own column or have you mapped multiple statuses to each column?

What is the filter that you are applying?

Can you provide screen images to illustrate what you're seeing? Obscure confidential information, of course

Hi Trudy, yes it is a business project, as I mentioned I used to have the ability to do this before the update.

I've created a number of work types unique to the project, and while they share many statuses in common, some have unique statuses. For example: we have a "Webinar" work type that has unique statuses such as "Speaker confirmed" and "Live on LMS" that don't appear in the workflow of any other work type. However, when I filter by work type, these statuses will still show up in the columns.

When you say "mapped the statuses to the columns", I don't know what you're referring to. We have the Board view with the "Group:" option set to "Status".

@Trudy Claspill thanks for the link to the release notes. I can't quite believe this passed UA testing. What used to take me one click will now take me several steps in creating several unique boards for different workflows and saving unique views for each of them. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be on a PIP.

Thank you for the confirmation about the project type.

According to the article linked in my first response it should be possible for the project admin to customize the board in a variety of ways as described under the What's New heading

One method would be to map multiple statuses to a single column. The statuses unique to each workflow could be mapped to shared columns so that when you filter by work type you won't have "extra" columns.

There are additional customization options in the article that may enable you to get the views you want.

There are also dialogs in the comments on the article that may provide additional guidance or insights to you.

Thanks Trudy, yes the article explained why I can no longer do something that was very quick and useful for my team. Thanks for linking, I either missed this or was not on the distro list. Time to make some custom boards!!
