Is there a way to remove avatars on the Jira Board?

Wondering if there's a way to add / remove avatars from the Jira quick filter? Half these people aren't on my team and the ones who are are hidden under the +4

The only way to reduce the avatars list is to remove the issues assigned to the respective people from your board/backlog. Or in other words, the avatars shown in the filter represent the assignees of all issues in your board/backlog.
