Is there a way to prevent frequent logouts or configure Jira to behave like the previous version, where the session duration was longer?

Welcome @Diane Scott

You need to check if there are some authentication policies, you need to be organization admin for that.

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Authentication policies.

  3. Select Edit for the policy you want to modify.

  4. On the Settings page, select length of time for Idle session duration.
